Alexa has RAG1 SCID and received a transplant from a matched unrelated donor after being picked up by the Newborn Screening Test in Illinois.
Michelle: Every year on Alexa’s Life Day, Alexa and our family choose an organization to give back to. This year we wanted to raise money for the SCID Angels For Life Foundation, and specifically for the $30,000 for Brandon’s 30th Campaign.
Since Alexa enjoys doing crafts, I looked up some kids’ craft ideas online and came across the bead bowls made from Perler beads. We thought it might be fun to make bead bowls to sell and raise money.
I posted Alexa’s fundraiser on Facebook, and when Alexa visited extended family she would bring some bowls and tell them why she was selling them. The idea was well received. Our friends and family loved her bowls and were excited to donate.
She made 40 bowls and raised $500. Alexa was thrilled to help an organization that had an important part in saving her life.
Alexa had so much fun making the bowls and raising money. I hope she inspires others.
